### A Daughter of the Soil and the Struggle

Born in 1952 in Tsumeb, Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah grew up under a system that told Black Namibians they were less than human. But she never believed it. As a young woman, she joined the Swapo liberation movement and later went into exile, carrying Namibia’s unfinished dream of freedom on her shoulders.

She did not sit at the back of the story. She helped write it. In exile, she served the liberation movement in different capacities, representing Namibians who could not yet speak for themselves. For years, she worked not for power, but for the day her people would live free in their own land.

When Namibia became independent in 1990, she did not disappear from the frontlines. She moved from liberation struggle into national service, taking on senior roles in government and eventually becoming Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. For more than a decade, she was the voice of Namibia on the world stage—diplomatic, firm, and deeply rooted in the principles of Pan-Africanism and dignity for all.

### The Road to State House

President Nandi-Ndaitwah did not arrive at State House by accident. She earned it, step by step.

She rose through the ranks of Swapo, becoming the party’s vice-president. When former President Hage Geingob passed away, she became Namibia’s Vice-President—quietly stepping closer to the centre of national responsibility.

In November 2024, she stood before the Namibian people as a candidate for the presidency. She did not run as a woman only; she ran as a proven servant-leader. And the people responded. She won the election decisively.

On **21 March 2025**, on Namibia’s Independence Day—the same day the nation celebrates its freedom—she was sworn in as the fifth President of the Republic of Namibia. With that oath, she rewrote Namibian history and added her name to Africa’s very short, powerful list of female presidents.

### The President She Is Becoming

As president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has not forgotten the women who walked barefoot through the liberation struggle, the young people seeking work, the farmers facing drought, or the communities still waiting for the promise of independence to fully reach them.

She has made clear that her presidency is not about her, but about building a Namibia where no one is left behind. Her work since taking office has focused on **national unity, economic transformation, youth empowerment, women’s rights, and climate resilience**. And because of her long history as a diplomat, she is also ensuring that Namibia’s voice remains strong in Africa and the world.

Some leaders are celebrated after they are gone. But President Nandi-Ndaitwah is one of those rare figures we get to honour while she is still with us.
