First Aid To Someone Fainted
If someone faints, here’s what to do right away:
1. **Check the scene is safe** – make sure you and the person are not in danger.
2. **Check responsiveness** – gently tap and ask, “Are you okay?” If no response, call for emergency help (like 911 or your local number).
3. **Position the person** – If they are breathing normally, lay them on their back and elevate their legs about 12 inches to help blood flow to the brain.
4. **Loosen tight clothing** – undo collars, belts, or anything restrictive.
5. **Monitor breathing** – watch for normal breathing and signs of recovery. They should regain awareness within a minute or two.
6. **Do not give food or drink** – not until they are fully alert and able to swallow safely.
7. **If they don’t wake up quickly** – or if they have trouble breathing, chest pain, or seizures – call emergency services immediately and be ready to start CPR if they stop breathing.
When they come around, help them sit up slowly, then stand only when they feel ready. If fainting happens repeatedly, or if there is no obvious cause, they should see a doctor.
